City/ Urban Environment infiltration into my work

The city is often a reoccurring theme in my work, I think this is for a few reasons.

!) The feeling of anonymity despite being surrounded by thousands of people.
2) The large buildings, towering structures all contributing to a person feeling small and un-noticed.
3) Synonymous with office work, repetitive, monotonous and everyone is doing the same kind of thing, its a bit of a loss of identity

I've lived in the city and the country and definitely can refer more to the city. Its a theme that, unless irrelevant, I think I will always keep in my work.

Shadow and light: My inspiration

My first piece of moving image was storyboarded to be animation as you can see above but the project concluded with me filming shadows in this small, dank, dirty room in the basement of my home. Its something I've never forgotten as these two element are what really appeal to me:

disused, dirty eroded spaces

shadows, depicting how light moves, the contast between light and dark

This has been a concentration in my research and includes things such as shadow puppet theatre, photograms and personal projects. Its a niche that isn't only admired by me dazed and confused gathered practitioners that are seduced by light.

Following is an animation that I feel highlights the things that I would like to do under this theme.

I like to use slow shutter speed images of the city and after looking at some I did at the beginning of second year I thought I'd have another look this year, being able to look at it from a moving image perspective.
